September 2017 - Darth Maul Zbrush Sculpt

Sculpted here is one my most favourite villians of all time - Darth Maul. Since I was a kid I had loved the look of the character - his tattoos terrified me and he was, in my opinion, the ultimate sith lord.

After experimenting in Zbrush, I began to experiment with how well I could re-create the iconic look of the character. Studying a life cast from Ray Park (actor who Played Maul), I began to sculpt on top of an already existing model. Once that was done, I polypainted all of the tattoos visible on his face. This was done without tracing and purely from photographic reference.

Once I was happy, I began to sculpt in finer details, such as skin pores and chips on his horns. After a few test renders, I later continued and began to sculpt the rest of his outfit. Although I consider this "finished", I may re-visit it and see If I can get a full character model completed.

For cloth detail I used xNormal to generate Normal Maps & Lightsaber model was an already made asset.

Using many render-passes, I made the final image via Photoshop.
